Do you sign, seal, and deliver? personal development

The path from conscious thought to self-chosen change and action, does not necessarily happen overnight. That is part of what makes the process so fun to work with. Decisions do not need to be made in an instant, and the majority of life-changing action deserves a little thought. The process is why it is called personal development.

I experienced an incredibly inspiring day on Wednesday. It was pretty much like any other day, no doubt about that. However, that which made it special, was conversing with a person that I occasionally run into around the neighborhood where I live. As she was headed to the rest of her day, I asked her if she would allow me to write a little bit about it. It will be very general indeed, and the coincidence of the conversation was quite uncanny, as I had planned to write a post or two about the underlying core subject.

I have gained a sense of who she is throughout the past several months. It became clear this week that she is facing some major decisions ahead. Important areas of life seem to be simultaneously closing in on her, and that is exactly how she described the feeling. Collectively it will most likely serve as a catalyst toward change, and hopefully much of it will be a result of her own choices, and the outcomes she wishes. This was a general description, and a tad beside the point, as there is something that strikes me about this person.

The sense of her, is solidity. She has an incredibly developed foundation, and she is unusually consistent, congruent, aligned, or whatever word you choose to describe it with. I previously wrote about feelings of not quite being planted in oneself. The feelings of standing beside, ahead, or lagging behind the physical body. Even as she described leaning one way or another in her thoughts and decision-making, she was firmly planted, and void of facades.

One of the keys behind this development is total honesty to self, and a core connection to inner strength. In a round-about way, it ultimately enables an unafraid ability to openly express. She verbalizes a rare sense of responsibility for her life, not only accepting, but also understanding the consequences of her choices. In other words, she is not a person that quickly jumps to rationalization to ease inner tension.

I don't know if any of this makes sense. They can be difficult things to describe, yet I sense them, and I usually have to resort to other therapies in order to work with them. This woman is a 'thinker', and she manifests. She signs, seals, and delivers with a solid period at the end. It is so fantastic to experience this in people, and that same evening I went back in time in my thoughts. I've travelled a lot of ground in my life. Yet, I can only think of a handful of individuals that have been as aligned as this lady.

I write so much about 'expanding' thought and questioning beliefs, and the reason is because the more we can expand our preferences for certain things in life, or become more accepting of other things, the less constraints we impose upon ourselves. The lesser the constraints, the more options and opportunities we open ourselves up to. This means we gain greater choice, and a larger arena of potential happiness and well-being in which to consider, and move about in.

Our greatest discoveries and inventions throughout history have been the results of expansive thought, which tested the limits of that which was already known. If they had only remained as thoughts and ideas, they would of course, never have come into being. Yet, as ideas are drawn down into the physical world, they also face the constraints of this same world. So, the compromise becomes a meeting between creativity, and do-able design, for example.

It is the same with people. Even if thought expansion is the first step to conscious living, we become 'top heavy' if we stay there, and it's easy to lose touch with life's realities, and the existing frameworks of interaction with others. If we never entertain expansive thought, we then remain a little 'bottom heavy', and lose options and opportunity, because we don't see them passing us by. Being human with much to relate to, we tend to cut ourselves in half, either being too much in our 'heads', or too much in the survival mode of our existence.

In order to manifest action and results from ideas and thought, we need that connection to core security, and this core is two-fold. It's not an issue of self-esteem, or security that others may provide for us. It is a concept that is a bit different from these, and I will try to jot down my thoughts about it in the next couple of posts.
